چکیده

We consider the problem of efficient “on the fly” tuning of existing, or legacy, Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems. The legacy AI systems are allowed to be of arbitrary class, albeit the data they are using for computing interim or final decision responses should posses an underlying structure of a high-dimensional topological real vector space. The tuning method that we propose enables dealing with errors without the need to re-train the system. Instead of re-training a simple cascade of perceptron nodes is added to the legacy system. The added cascade modulates the AI legacy system’s decisions. If applied repeatedly, the process results in a network of modulating rules “dressing up” and improving performance of existing AI systems. Mathematical rationale behind the method is based on the fundamental property of measure concentration in high dimensional spaces. The method is illustrated with an example of fine-tuning a deep convolutional network that has been pretrained to detect pedestrians in images.

Blessing of dimensionality: mathematical foundations of the statistical physics of data

The concentrations of measure phenomena were discovered as the mathematical background to statistical mechanics at the end of the nineteenth/beginning of the twentieth century and have been explored in mathematics ever since. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, it became clear that the proper utilization of these phenomena in machine learning might transform the curse of dimensionalit...

Stochastic separation theorems

The problem of non-iterative one-shot and non-destructive correction of unavoidable mistakes arises in all Artificial Intelligence applications in the real world. Its solution requires robust separation of samples with errors from samples where the system works properly. We demonstrate that in (moderately) high dimension this separation could be achieved with probability close to one by linear ...

Permeability and selectivity prediction of poly (4-methyl 1-pentane) membrane modified by nanoparticles in gas separation through artificial intelligent systems

In this work, the effects of operative parameters on CH4, CO2, O2, and N2 membrane gas separation for poly (4-methyl-1-pentane) (PMP) membrane modified by adding nanoparticles of TiO2, ZnO, and Al2O3 are assessed and investigated. The operative parameters were type and percentage of nanoparticles, and cross membrane pr...

A Statistical Analysis of the Aircraft Landing Process

Managing operations of the aircraft approach process and analyzing runway landing capacity, utilization and related risks require detailed insight into the stochastic characteristics of the process. These characteristics can be represented by probability distributions. The focus of this study is analyzing landings on a runway operating independent of other runways making it as a single runway. ...

Karlin’s Basic Composition Theorems and Stochastic Orderings

Suppose λ,x,ζ traverse the ordered sets Λ, X and Z, respectively and consider the functions f(λ,x,ζ) and g(λ,ζ) satisfying the following conditions, (a) f(λ,x,ζ) > 0 and f is TP2 in each pairs of variables when the third variable is held fixed and (b) g(λ,ζ) is TP2. Then the function h(λ,x) =∫Z f(λ,x,ζ)g(λ,ζ)dµ(ζ), defined on Λ×X is TP2 in (λ,x). The aim of this note is to use a new stochast...
